My Goodies Box for May!

And it arrived in a timely manner too!  I was happy about that … it would seem that Goodies is getting into the groove!

???????????????????????????????

And there were some tasty items to be found in May’s Goodies Box!  First of all, there was a coupon for a free package of Wholly Guacamole, and as I’ve professed in this review, I love this stuff!  Since Wholly Guacamole has to be refrigerated, it makes sense to send us a coupon for a free package rather than sending us a package of it … it would have spoiled on the journey.  Also included was a “chip clip” from Wholly Guacamole.  A nice freebie gift.

Also in this month’s box were two packages of Sour Power Straws which are a gummy-like candy.  I am not all that in to sour candy, so, I passed these along to my eleven year old daughter, and she enjoyed them.

There was a small pouch of SuperSeedz Sea Salt flavored Pumpkin Seeds and I enjoyed these.  SuperSeedz has some really intriguing flavors of Pumpkin seeds, including Cocoa and Tomato Italiano … and I’d really love to try some of the other flavors.  The sea salt was tasty, certainly, but rather ordinary when compared to some of these other unique flavors.

???????????????????????????????

Beanitos Original
with Sea Salt

The Beanitos Black Bean chips (again, sea salt flavored) were yummy, I really enjoyed these.  Imagine corn tortilla chips that were dipped in black bean dip … then take out the corn and add a little bit of rice … and you have these chips!  Nice, crunchy texture with just the right amount of salt.  With these chips, I didn’t mind so much that they were the “original” sea salted flavor, because it allowed me to really experience the flavor of the black bean and the hint of rice.  These have definitely piqued my interest and I’d like to try some of the other flavors from Beanitos.

Also in May’s Box was a teabag pouch of Numi Moroccan Mint Herbal Tea (watch for the review of this tea on SororiTea Sisters), large carton of Zico Coconut Water (Yes!), two small sampler packets of California Olive Ranch Olive Oil, and a small jar of Bronco Bob’s Roasted Mango Chipotle Sauce … I haven’t tried these yet, so watch for individual reviews of them … the Olive Oil and the Sauce will probably come along with some sort of recipe … I haven’t decided how that will go just yet though!

A really good box … I’m happy with it!

My Goodies Box for April arrived … before May!

Yeah, I’m just late writing about it!  I’m behind writing about EVERYTHING … but I hope to get caught up eventually.

???????????????????????????????

April’s Goodies Box has all been devoured by now, with the exception of the Raspberry Acai Celsius beverage.  And since I’ve already eaten nearly all the April box, rather than writing individual reviews on each of these, I’ll just tell you my thoughts briefly on each of the products here.

The first product I tore into was the Sea Salt MultiGrain Sweet Potato Chips from Green Giant.  These are pretty darned tasty.  I loved the multi-grain aspect of these … they ended up tasting a lot like “Sun Chips” but with a sweet potato taste that made them better than most other multi-grain chips.  These are something I will definitely keep my eye out for when grocery shopping!

Next up was the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar.  I love cookie dough, and the consistency of this nutrition bar … before biting in to it … was very much like cookie dough, so I had high hopes for this.  But, unfortunately, after I bit into the bar and started chewing … the texture became very “diet food” like.  It tasted alright, but it wasn’t something that inspired me to want to buy another bar.  It wasn’t what I’d call tasty … it was acceptable, but the texture made it less than enjoyable to eat.

Then I tasted the Apricot Almond Chai True Bar.  This is seriously yummy!  The spice in this is very distinct and I like that.  Lots of cardamom, ginger and cinnamon!  The cardamom is especially nice here, it has a slight citrus-y tone that compliments the apricot very well.  Lots of crunch to this bar, and a whole lot of flavor.  The apricot comes through nicely.  The texture is crunchy and I like that it didn’t feel overly sticky to the fingers. This will be something that I’ll want again and again – definitely one of the very best energy/health bars I’ve ever tasted.

Angie’s Sweet & Salty Popcorn is an entirely different story all together.  I really enjoyed this tasty snack.  The popcorn is light and crispy, the sweet coating on the kernels isn’t a heavy one – it’s lightly sweet, but, there is enough of an almost-caramel-y taste there that makes me think of a salted caramel without being too cloying.  It’s a nice alternative to the overly sweet snack.

The last product that I’ve tried from this box are the Olomomo Chai Bliss Almonds.  I LOVE THESE … and it’s not just because they’re chai-ishly flavored.  They are delicious and crunchy and sweet and spicy and just about everything I want from a snack (except possibly, they’re not chocolate.  What can I say, at the end of the day, I’m still a chocoholic!) I could snack on these every day … and my only real complaint about this “goodie” from my Goodie Box is that the package was so small, and it was just a handful of Chai Bliss goodness.  This is something I WILL hunt down and get more of!

Overall, I really enjoyed my April Box, and as I said, some products were more memorable than others.  I haven’t yet tried the Celsius drink, but, when I do, I’ll post a review of it.  Until then … maybe I’ll get May’s Goodie Box article posted!  ha!

My Portland Tasting Box from Foodzie Arrived!

I received my shipping notification yesterday afternoon, so imagine my surprise when the shipping notification indicated that the package was actually out for delivery!  Yay!  I ended up getting this package much earlier than I expected because I hadn’t gotten my notification … it might be nice if Foodzie delayed the notifications like this in the future, that way I’m not constantly and impatiently checking the tracking to see when it will arrive!

The three box themes that we could select from this month were:  Portland Box, Spring Brunch Box, and Some Like it Hot Box.  I was really tempted by the Some Like it Hot Box (I LOVE spicy food!), and I would have selected it if not for the Portland Box.  I mean, come on!  I’m Hungry in Portland!  You know I’ve got to choose the box that represents my beloved city!

OK, yeah, so I actually live in Vancouver, but Portland is right over there.  Like, a five minute drive.  And usually when I go out to eat, it’s in Portland, and really, I doubt Foodzie will ever have a Vancouver, Washington box … because typically when someone mentions “Vancouver” … people think Canada, not Washington state.

So let’s talk a bit about the Portland Box.  Here’s what Emily and Rob at Foodzie had to say about their inspiration behind the box:

People often make the joke that Portland is the place where young people go to retire.  But if retirement tastes like this, we’re all for it.  For a mid-sized city, Portland’s food scene is packed with food trucks, farm-to-table cuisine, and talented artisan foodmakers.  We rounded up some of our favorites that show off the Pacific Northwest’s finest flavors.  Get ready to taste locally grown hazelnuts, roasted with just a touch of salt.  You’ll also taste the sweet, earthy flavor of the native marionberry, the “cabernet of blackberries,” packed inside tender pâte de fruit.  And you’re in for a treat with Good Food Award-winning, local charcuterie.  No travel required for this tasting trip to Portlandia, dig in and enjoy.  ~Rob & Emily

And you know what?  Surprisingly enough, even though I live there (or very close to “there”), these are all foods I’ve not yet tried!  Inside this month’s box, I received a bottle of Raspberry Soda from Hotlips Soda, a package of Roasted Hazelnuts from Freddy Guys, a Chocolate Coconut Cookie from Sunna’s Cookies, Cacciatore salami from Olympic Provisions, and Marionberry Pâte de Fruit from Willamette Valley Confectionery that’s been packaged in a cute produce basket.

I am really excited to start tasting from this box!  YUM!

May Tasting Box has Arrived!

Just like the months previous since I’ve started subscribing to the Foodzie tasting box, I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of my box and even feeling a little jealous reading on Foodzie’s Facebook page that others had received and begun enjoying this month’s offerings.  I kept telling myself that my patience would be rewarded – and I was absolutely correct on that account.  What a delicious bounty of samples!

This month’s box contained:  Pine-4-Pineapple Fruit Snacks from Peeled Snacks, Roasted Seaweed Snack from SeaSnax, Traditional Alfajores from Sabores del Sur (La Cocina), Two different flavors of Biscotti from Biscotti Bari, Two different flavors of Herb Sea Salts from Woody’s Gourmet, and Pure Southern Iced Tea Bag from Pluff Iced Tea.

Also included in my box was a recipe card for the Sea Salt blends as well as the Map Card.  The map card gives a brief description of each item and shows from which part of the country each item came.  Here’s scans of both sides of the card:

I am so excited to try these items.  I must admit that I’ve previously tried (and reviewed) the Pluff Iced Tea, but all of the other goodies are new to me.  I will be writing a separate review for each item as I taste them, except for the Pluff Iced Tea, since I already wrote one for it.
